What To Expect From The CrossFit Open

The CrossFit Open is coming up, to find out more about what it is, when it is, and how to participate, click here.

In this post, I want to explain what you should expect from the 3 workouts we'll be seeing, and how you've actually been training for the Open already!

A Brief History Of The Open

The CrossFit Open is an inclusive test of fitness, so the movements and weights are usually pretty accessible. In fact the early years of The Open there was only one version released. It would be programmed in such a way that most anyone could get a valid score by doing the first part of it.

As participation in the Open expanded, CrossFit added a scaled division, which gave athletes an alternative version of the workout that they could likely do all the way through.

This year, there's even more divisions, including the Foundations division, which will allow literally anyone to participate.

Still, the Rx version has never been some insane workout that only super human fitness gods and goddesses could do.

In fact, most every movement that has been in the Open, is something you've likely already done.

The Movements of the Open

Here are some movements and weights from past Open workouts that would allow you to submit an "Rx'd" score.

Thruster 95/65
Snatch 75/55
Wall Ball 20/14
Toes To Bar
Double Under
Box Jump 24/20
Push Press 115/75
Clean and Jerk 135/95
Overhead Squat 95/65
Rowing For Calories
and of course...
Burpees

Now, this is not a comprehensive list by any means, and it's not a predictor of what is to come exactly for this Open, but as you can see, this list of movements looks very similar to movements and weights we do on a daily basis at the gym.

You're Already Training For The Open

That's right! Whether you've been aware of it or not, the workouts we do at Big Shoulders CrossFit, here in Elmhurst, IL, are in fact preparing you for this very competition.

Imagine training for a marathon or obstacle course run. You block off time in your schedule to make sure you're running and working out so you can do your best. Putting in hours each week, only to decide not to run the race?

I sure can't!

Like any marathon, or obstacle course run, it's not about taking first, it's about pushing yourself. Seeing what you're capable of. You'll never know if you don't run the race!

So what are you waiting for? Sign up for The 2nd Annual, Dallas Cup, Big Shoulders In-House Open Competition. You'll be on a team of people, just like you, pushing themselves to be their best, while having a blast doing it.

I mean heck, you've already been training for this, so you might as well, right?

REGISTER HERE

Once you're registered, you'll get "drafted" to a team on Saturday February 27th. The Open doesn't start until March 11th though, so you'll have plenty of time to recruit your friends to your team afterwards if they haven't already signed up!
